The process of building up the soles on a pair of welted shoes.

A sample of the original leather has been acquired from the manufacturer and stitched directly to the upper and inner board.

The lightweight build up material is attached and shaped to the exact specification of the client.

This is the leather bend being measured and cut. this is fitted to the build up material as an inner board.

Once fitted the inner board is softened with water in preparation for stitching the welt and upper to the inner board.

The leather is turned the right way and pinned ready for a new welt and a new sole and heel.
